Community Garden

COMMUNITY ORCHARD & GARDEN

Community growing facilities are currently being developed in a disused walled garden, previously used as the orchard for the Church near the school. Funding has been awarded towards installing a polytunnel, outdoor classroom, wheelchair accessible paths, tools, raised beds and fruit trees.

'Closeburn Growing Skills' aims to organise workshops and recreational sessions in the garden to give people of all ages confidence to learn various horticultural skills as well as generate some local organic edible produce for the community.

As the garden becomes more established after some renovation and development, the Trust aim to work closely with the Primary School and volunteers to encourage more outdoor learning. It is also the aim of the Trust to be able to support people who feel socially isolated to carry out volunteer-led activities in a therapeutic manner.

Funding has been awarded from the Dumfries & Galloway Anti-poverty Fund and SSE Clyde.
